The R.S.S. Pre-Lifeguard Academy is open for every student in School District #23 !
Students enrolled in SD23 have a unique opportunity to participate in a program that allows them to gain real life experience toward many professional service careers such as, Firefighting, Nursing, and Policing.
Students from any Central Okanagan school can participate in the program by cross-enrolling into the RSS Pre-Lifeguard Academy class and building it into their home school schedule.
PRE-LIFEGUARDING 11
This single semester course will allow students to gain 4 grade 11 course credits and the following professional lifeguard certifications.

The R.S.S. Pre-Lifeguard Academy is designed to provide our students with:

Pre-requisite certifications for careers in Firefighting, Policing, Paramedics, and Nursing.

an opportunity to reduce the stress of financial barriers associated with transitions from high school to post-secondary education and independent living.

Students have the opportunity to get hired as professional lifeguards while taking the program!
A number of students in our first year of operation were hired to work with the Kelowna Family YMCA as Water Safety Instructors in their second semester.
The YMCA is looking for dedicated and professional lifeguards and our program provides supervisors with many chances to assess our student's level of knowledge, skill, and dedication to the life guarding career. This leads to better hiring opportunities built in to the fabric of our program.
